A kidney transplant is a surgery to replace a kidney into a person whose kidneys no longer function properly. with a healthy kidney from a living or deceased donor. There are two main types of kidney transplants:

• Deceased-Donor Kidney Transplant: The kidney comes from a deceased donor who made the decision to donate their organs. The donor is closely screened.
• Living-Donor Kidney Transplant: The kidney comes from a living donor who has two healthy kidneys and chooses to donate one. The donor can be a family member, friend, or stranger.
