Incontinence

The inability to control the flow of urine or stool is known as Incontinence. There are different types of incontinence, including urinary incontinence and faecal incontinence:

Urinary Incontinence:
The involuntary leakage of urine. There are several types, including:

  • Stress Incontinence: Urine leaks when pressure is put on the bladder, such as when you cough, sneeze, laugh, or exercise.
  • Urge Incontinence: A sudden and strong urge to urinate results in urine leaking.
  • Overflow Incontinence: The bladder that is always full that leads to the leaking of urine.
  • Total Incontinence: The inability of the bladder to store any urine at all, thereby causing frequent leaking or constant urination.
Faecal Incontinence:
It is inability to control bowel movements, leading to the leakage of solid or liquid stool. Some risk factors for incontinence include:
  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Gender
  • Age
  • Diseases like diabetes, kidney disease, and spinal cord injury
  • Prostate disease
