Hypospadias and Epispadias Surgery

Hypospadias and Epispadias both are conditions that affect the position of the urethral opening and surgical correction in the common treatment for hypospadias and epispadias. The goal of surgery is to reposition the urethral opening and restore normal urinary function. The specific surgical technique depends on the severity and location of the condition. Hypospadias and Epispadias are both congenital conditions that affect the male genitalia, but they differ in the location of the urethral opening and other symptoms.
Hypospadias: In Hypospadias the urethra doesn’t fully develop and reach the penis tip. The urethra opening ends up in a different position along the bottom of the penis.  Hypospadias repair is a surgical procedure to correct a condition where the opening of the urethra is not in the right place.

Epispadias: In babies with epispadias, the urethra doesn’t fully develop, and urine exits the body from an abnormal location. The urethra doesn’t form correctly. The opening is on the top of the penis.  It may be caused by hormonal malfunction, gene variations, or a family history of epispadias. Epispadias repair is a surgical procedure that corrects the condition and improves the appearance and function of the genitals.
