Urogenital Cancer Surgeries

Urogenital Cancer Surgeries are surgical procedures performed for the treatment of bladder cancer and kidney cancer. It is also performed to enable the reconstruction and restoration of the urinary tract and reproductive system:

Bladder Cancer Surgeries
These include:
Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT): A bladder tumor is removed through the urethra using a cystoscope. This is generally the first line of treatment for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.

Radical Cystectomy: It is the procedure wherein the entire bladder, lymph nodes, and other nearby organs are removed. This procedure permanently changes how one urinates and may also affect sexual function.

Urinary Tract Reconstruction: After removing the bladder, the surgeon rebuilds the urinary tract. Reconstructive options include:

  • Neobladder Surgery: A new bladder is created by connecting part of the small bowel to the urethra.
  • Diversion Surgery: After a Radical cystectomy, a new way is created for the body to store urine, called a urinary diversion or Diversion surgery.

Kidney Cancer Surgery: This includes lymphadenectomy, which is when a surgeon removes nearby lymph nodes to check for cancer.

Urogenital Reconstructive Surgery: This specialized surgery is performed to restore function and normal anatomy to the urinary tract and reproductive system.
